A Win for Completionists Everywhere
If you have ever spent dozens of hours hunting down every single secret in a video game just to earn that glorious 100 percent completion badge, you know the ultimate heartbreak. You log into Steam, admire your glowing digital trophy, and then—bam! The developers release a new downloadable expansion, suddenly adding thirty brand-new locked goals. Just like that, your perfect score drops to 82 percent, even though you completely crushed the main storyline.
Thankfully, Valve has heard the cries of dedicated gamers. A massive overhaul is currently rolling out in beta—a testing phase where players can try new software features before they officially launch worldwide. The biggest change tackles how Steam organizes achievements for games packed with extra content.
No More Stolen Trophies
Under the new system, Valve is separating the base game’s challenges from those tied to DLC (downloadable content) and season passes. That means when you unlock everything in the core adventure, your hard-earned gold ribbon stays intact forever. Any extra goals from expansions will appear in their own neat, dedicated folders.
The update also gives player profiles a sleek visual boost. You will soon be able to compare your progress side-by-side with your friends through a clear comparison view. Instead of scrolling through an endless wall of tiny text, you can instantly see who discovered that hidden boss first or who still needs help grabbing that final collectible.
Whether you casually collect trophies or proudly call yourself a completionist, tracking your in-game milestones is about to get a whole lot more satisfying. What is the toughest video game achievement you have ever unlocked?
